It’s Halloween…

With the pumpkin carved and candy bowl stocked, put on a scary movie and get ready to suspend your disbelief.

It’s funny how smart people do dumb things in horror films.

A creaking door, a deathly scream, a trail of blood…

Best go investigate. Alone.

Straight into the arms of a knife wielding maniac.

You can’t help but think the victims of Michael Myers, Freddie Krueger, Jason Vorhees et al, should’ve studied the Scooby-Doo playbook. Shaggy Rogers, Fred Jones, Velma Dinkley, Daphne Blake and their lovable Great Dane are the most successful monster hunters in history.

They’ve tangled with mummies, vampires, ghosts, witch-doctors, werewolves and zombies, and they always come out on top. Because unlike those chumps in slasher movies, they always employ the ultimate fail-safe, sure they split up. Investigating the haunted theme park/creepy castle/abandoned mine is quicker that way. But, the gang know, it’s when you’re isolated you’re at most vulnerable.

Buddy system guys, no excuses. Fred, Daphne and Velma in one group, Shaggy and Scooby in the other, who always encounter the monster du jour. Cue ensuing hilarity.

Cartoon silliness aside, let’s think about your learners for a minute.

What lurks in the dark recesses of the office if you let them wander off all by themselves. For classic horror movie villains like Pennywise, Leatherface and Chucky, substitute: forgetfulness, low confidence, or a gap since training took place.

And without access to ongoing support, they might as well be alone at their desks. No lifeline, no escape route, no back-up, ripe to be picked off by underperformance – a dark entity stalking each floundering step.

Fear not.

Just fire up a wealth of learning resources and refresh your knowledge and skills. Bespoke, engaging, and available right when you need it. Unmask the villain that’s been holding you back – the lack of ongoing support.

And I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for those meddling kids.

Happy Halloween
