Supplier Engagement

The more dependency on external suppliers, the greater the risk of failure

Supplier Engagement

As more organisations increase their use of external suppliers the question is, how do you engage them to buy into your agenda? How can we get external suppliers as passionate as we are about our business? The more dependency there is on external suppliers, the greater the risk of failure.

We believe that there can be many benefits working with external suppliers. They can bring fresh ideas, diversity of thinking, an external perspective! The important thing is to manage the relationship effectively and limit the risk of failure.

This product area is led by Peter Hurst which is researched and developed in collaboration with Matt McIntyre and Joe Walker. Peter draws on many years of practice, research and development in to engagement.

Our approach helps:

  • Understand the process of selecting an external supplier and the risk and benefit of using an external over an internal.
  • Develop an approach to engaging external suppliers and motivating them with your vision, values, passion and goals.
  • Identify the skills, processes and manage style to get the best from the relationship and optimise the value for the organisation.

  • SE7 model – a structured seven stage approach to effect optimum supplier engagement
  • Relationship Analysis – an approach to examining the supplier relationships and developing a strategy for aligning the relationship with your needs and values.
  • CATALYST – an OnTrack approach for developing an energising climate to enthuse and motivate

Telecoms

With this global organisation we were asked to support an increase in top line efficiency and also market leading innovations with the organisations third party suppliers. As a result, with just one relationship, one of the senior leadership project managers reported back to the board a cost efficiency saving of £1.9million.

Banking

With this leading high street banking brand, off the back of one of the largest IT integrations in corporate history, there was a need to engage with their technology suppliers to drive some innovative solutions. This initial project was only to run for eight programmes, but drove so much value it was run across the whole IT department over 3 years.

Air Industry

We supported the manufacturers of the largest passenger jet in the world, in the integration of WiFi in the first and business class cabins. In order to satisfy this objective, this project was dependant on cutting edge innovations and technologies from three different suppliers, one in the US, one in Germany, and one the UK. The outcome of this collaboration was a world first for the airline industry.
