Employee Engagement
Employee Engagement is the measure of an employee's emotional connection to their organisation, their colleagues and their role. Engaged employees experience a compelling sense of purpose, ownership and commitment to their work! When positive, it influences their willingness to perform to their optimum triggering ingenuity and creativity which otherwise lies dormant! When negative, the result is mediocrity and adequate or under performance. Recent reviews (MacLeod report 2009) show that in the UK less than a third of employees are positively engaged.
Engagement is not about employees working harder. It is about them working smarter; more efficiently and effectively! Key factors leading to positive engagement include: Understand and listen to your employees, Keep them informed, create a caring, people focussed climate, manage with commitment, integrity and fairness towards employees and ensure people have the right roles.
Having good people management practices and policies is the corner stone of engagement. OnTrack have a range of approaches to helping organisations put in place a climate which drives engagement and high performance.

Line managers in this global business were required to take ownership of matters arising from the staff survey conducted by the organisation. The business was seeking to begin to develop a common culture in the many countries where it has staff representation. The issues arising, the strengths and areas of new focus were different in many of the territories. Our approach was flexible to meet the range of line managers requirements. It provided tools and techniques appropriate to their circumstances and enabled each manager attending to create a focused action plan to implement and present it where required to their local sponsor.

This organisation had a key requirement to improve the quality of conversation between line manager and employee. There was a need to develop a greater understanding of each individual's performance and potential. Many of the staff are engaged in their professional scientific area of expertise and this type of dialogue was alien to their working style. Time was a challenge as too was the geographic spread of staff across many countries. OnTrack developed a range of power learning sessions which are short in duration each focussed on a different challenge or skill requirement. Client staff with facilitation skills were provided with the tools to deliver the solutions enabling those in countries where staff numbers were low to more easily access the development opportunities.
